Working Together

Year 7 Maths

Year 7 are learning the Winston Way in their maths lessons.  They have the opportunity to collaborate, as they problem solve, using the white boards that have been installed for this purpose.  Our experience is that students gain more confidence through this method and enjoy trying out ways of solving the challenging tasks set by the teachers.

Year 10 Film Studio Visit

Year 10 had a very successful educational visit to the Warner Brothers Studios.  The day began with a ‘Script to screen’ workshop where students learned about the roles within the industry.  Students also discovered the great job opportunities available now that many more films are being made in England.  We looked at the importance of costume design, model work and special effects.  Students also had hands on experience at flying broomsticks and turning into giants thanks to green screens and forced perspective.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

The staff enjoyed a great range of cakes to have with their coffee during break, to help raise fund for the Macmillan Charity, a very worthwhile cause, that sadly has touched many of the families connected with the school.

Year 11 are also fund raising for our chosen charity, The Woking Hospice, by walking the distance between Winston and the North Pole, please support their tremendous endeavour.

Fire Drill

Students experienced a double fire drill, to help to ensure our readiness  in the event of a real incident.  Having established that we could evacuate the building in three minutes, once the students had returned to their lessons, the bells rang again but this time a staircase was blocked off , simulating just one possible scenario.  The students were brilliant and found an alternative route through to the back staircase and we completed a second evacuation successfully.
