Winston in Holland!

Holland: Music Tour 2017

Day 1: At 6.00am on Monday 3rd July the Music Department were in full swing at Winston with the staff and  40 students involved getting everything we needed for our Music Tour to Holland onto our coach. Shortly after we were on our way and some 12 hours later arrived in our home for the week, the coastal town of Noordwijk.

Day 2: On the Tuesday we had our first excursion of the week to Zaanse Schans, a working traditional Dutch village. There we enjoyed seeing windmills as well as how clogs, different cheeses and different breads were made. We then set off for our first concert in the beautiful town of Delft. Our concert took place in the main town square and an excellent audience of well over 100 people were able to enjoy the mix of classical and popular music that the tour Orchestra, Choir and Session Band performed. That evening we had time to relax so visited the local beach in Noordwijk where students (and staff!) enjoyed playing frisbee and beach football.

Day 3: Wednesday saw us travel to Amsterdam where we visited the Anne Frank House Museum, a sobering but fascinating experience for all of us, before we enjoyed a relaxing boat trip around the canals of the city. In the evening we returned to Noordwijk and made our way down to the beach front again, this time to perform our second concert. Another fantastic audience turned out to see our students perform and were so entertained that they demanded an encore.

Day 4: On Thursday we travelled to Eftling, Holland’s biggest and one of Europe’s most famous theme parks. There we performed our final concert of the tour, which featured our Session Band and Tour Choir. With over 12,000 people in the park that day we had really big audiences for both of the sets that we did and the feedback from both the public and the concert organisers was excellent.

Day 5: Friday saw us travel back to Woking and the end of our 2017 Music Tour.

The tour week was absolutely fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed by all of the students and staff who took part. Special mentions go to Kiera, Anya and Cameron for the fantastic singing with the session band, Will for his excellent Chariots of Fire piano solo and Bachir, Ellen and Emily for their performance of Londonderry Air. We would also like to say a huge thank you to Andrew Hill for his help and organisation throughout the week and to Miss Ashworth for organising yet another amazing tour.
Look out for details of our 2018 Music Tour which will
be out early next term!
