Celebrating Duke of Edinburgh Awards
The annual celebration of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards was held at The HG Wells Centre in Woking on Tuesday 22nd March. Winston has the largest cohort of Bronze participants and staff and students enjoyed the recognition of their success. Although the official photographs have yet to be released, I thought that you might enjoy the images below.
Well done to everyone who successful completes all the elements of the award and a huge thank you to our staff who ensure that students have the opportunity to take part.
On Tuesday a team of Year 10 students went to Surrey university in Guildford to compete in the “Maths Feast”. They competed against many other schools in difficult rounds such as interpreting complex numbers (a topic they have never studied!) and problem solving. The team won the whole competition, an amazing achievement!
The organisers have said the students were a “credit to the school” and “it was lovely to see their enthusiasm for the subject”.
We also received the following message:
'Just a quick email following this event today. I had the pleasure to spend the afternoon supervising the team representing your school, and was delighted that they deservedly won the competition. It was also lovely to see their enthusiasm for Mathematics, and their courteous and polite approach. I wish them all the best with their Mathematics and GCSEs next year.'
